Essaouira Excursion
Essaouira is one of Marrakech’s must-do and see day trips. It is only 170km far away from Marrakech which makes the visit to Essaouira a relaxing day trip from Marrakech. Essaouira is located on the Atlantic coast, it has always been a favorite retreat of hippies, sailors, artists and musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley; it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site – a protected city. Formerly known by its old Portuguese name “Mogador” by European sailors and traders, Essaouira is known for its annual Gnaoua Music Festival that takes place every year on June. The medina of Essaouira formerly “Mogador” is a UNESCO World Heritage city, one of the most charming medinas in all of Morocco, its ramparts and the Skala offer breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, Capsim islands, and the Portuguese harbor.
During your day trip and walking tour in Essaouira: Explore the atmospheric alleyways of the ancient medina, visit the port, the Skala, the municipal market, jeweler’s quarter and a handicrafts complex. There will also be time for a lunch break during the day and for this you can try the seafood at one of the local restaurants, famous fresh grilled seafood is served at the port before you make the drive back to Marrakech.
