Marrakech To Erg Chegaga Camel Trek Tour
Day 1: MARRAKECH – HIGH ATLAS – OUARZAZATE – AGDEZ
Departure early morning at 8 a.m from your hotel/riad in Marrakech heading towards Agdez; traveling through the pass of TiziN’tichka; you will be amazed by the number of Berber villages scattered along the way. En route, you will stop to see/visit the Universal heritage site of Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, enjoy a walking tour in a village that was built in the 11th century and still preserved until today. Furthermore, arriving at a city named as Hollywood of Africa; Ouarzazate where some of the biggest movies of all times were filmed in its popular sets and studios. You will continue across the smallest chain of Atlas Mountains called Anti until you arrive at Agdez where you overnight in a guesthouse. Dinner & breakfast served in the same place.
Day 2: AGDEZ – ZAGORA -TAMEGROUTE – MHAMID – CHIGAGA DUNES
Early morning you carry on with crossing the road of Draa valley till you reach Zagora where the remaining of Almoravid fortress can still be seen. You will visit one of the oldest libraries of the kingdom situated in the small town of Tamagrout. Driving further south, you will reach M’hamid that is a very small and modest village just like the previous one that you passed. After Mhamid, no more paved road, the 4WD off-roading until you reach your destination; you will be fascinated by the huge sand dunes of Erg Chigaga, where you will have the chance to go for a camel ride to come across a breathtaking view of sunset in the middle of the amazing sand dunes of all times. For the night in the desert of Erg Chigaga, you will enjoy a wonderful stars view in front of Berber camp where you will spend a relaxing night. Dinner & breakfast served in the camp.
Day 3: CHIGAGA DUNES – IRIKI LAKE – FOUMZGUID – TAZENAKHT – AIT BENHADDOU
Leaving behind the beautiful sand dunes of Erg Chigaga and heading towards the natural dry Lake of Iriki and the plains of black stones which 30 years ago was a very beautiful lake full of water and had a different kind of birds. Experience a tough off-road drive through the rocky desert for about a hundred kilometers. On the way, you will pass by a very small, noiseless and sleepy Berber town of Foum-Zguid for a lunch break and Taznakht which was one of the former and biggest trading posts of carpets in this region. An easy drive and you reach Ait Benhaddou where you will spend the night in a Kasbah hotel. Dinner, Breakfast & overnight.
Day 4: AIT BENHADDOU – TELOUET – TICHKA PASS – MARRAKECH
In your last day of the Marrakech to Erg Chegaga tour, you will get the chance to see Telouet Kasbah and drive across Ounila valley. A long time ago, it was a former seat of the Glaoui family that the King Moulay Hassan himself gave them the political power off of the high Atlas Mountains and south-east Morocco. The Kasbah is still a destination for a lot of tourists but it is damaged and slowly collapsing but the beautiful Palace is worth visiting, it is similar to Bahia Palace in Marrakech. You will get to have lunch in one of the restaurants along the way of the Tichka Pass and then we head to Marrakech where the tour comes to an end.
